Who we are
PeterBicycle experience: the bicycle is a preferred means of transportation in the region where I grew up - the northern, flat Ruhrgebiet. Kids and teenagers use the bicycle to go to school and use it in their leisure time. Hot weather and heavy rain did not stop me from riding my bicycle. Things changed when I studied in hilly Saarland. The bicycle wasn't used too much. Riding along the river Saar to France and back was more or less the only riding I did during my studies in Saarland. It changed again when I studied in the Netherlands. Dutch and the "fietsen", there is nothing else to say. Absolutely great place for bicycles with extra lanes. In the South of France with its Prealps and hilly landscape I did more mountain biking, so using the bicycle rather for sports than as means of transportation (well, you would not want to ride on the roads with cars anyway).

SarahEver since I was little, the thing I enjoy most is being outdoors in nature. To me there is nothing better than that. Therefore after spending my days in the office in front of the computer each and every day for over 3 years now, I felt that it is time for a change and some adventure. And what could there be better than spending all my days outdoors, on my bike, discovering new interesting countries, cultures, people and landscapes and all of that with my most favourite person :)

Sabbatical (englisch) - Sabbatjahr
Die Auslegung eines Sabbatjahrs unterscheidet sich von Land zu Land. In Deutschland scheint ein Sabbatical relativ ungewöhnlich zu sein, so dass sich auch keine entsprechende deutsche Definition dafür finden lässt. Da wir für französische Firmen arbeiten und in Frankfreich leben, ist es hilfreicher einen Blick auf die französische Definition (auf Französisch) zu werfen:

Wer wir sind

Fahrraderfahrung: das Fahrrad ist ein bevorzugtes Transportmittel in der Region, wo ich aufgewachsen bin, dem nördlichen, flachen Ruhrgebiet. Kinder und Teenagers benutzen das Fahrrad, um damit zur Schule zu fahren, aber auch allgemein in ihrer Freizeit. Heißes Wetter und heftige Regenschauer hatten mich nie davon abgehalten, das Fahrrad zu benutzen. Die Umstände änderten sich, als ich im hügeligen Saarland studierte. Das Fahrrad wurde dort nicht so oft benutzt. Ausflüge entlang der Saar nach Frankreich und zurück waren mehr oder weniger die einzigen Fahrten während meines Studiums. Alles änderte sich wieder, als ich in den Niederlanden studierte. Holländer und ihr Fahrrad, da gibt es wohl nicht mehr viel zu sagen. Das Land ist ideal für Radfahrer und hat sogar separate Fahrradspuren. In Südfrankreich mit den Voralpen und hügeliger Landschaft konzentrierte ich mich eher auf's Mountainbiken. Dort habe ich das Fahrrad also eher als Sport- statt als Transportmittel benutzt (in Südfrankreich mit den speziellen Autofahrern will sowieso keiner auf den Straßen fahren).

Schon seit ich klein war, bin ich immer am liebsten draussen in der Natur. Und das hat sich bis heute nicht geändert. Nachdem ich nun 3 Jahre jeden Tag im Büro hinter dem Rechner verbracht habe, ist es also nun Zeit fuer Veränderungen und ein Abenteuer. Und was könnte ich mir da Besseres vorstellen als meine Tage draussen, auf meinem Fahrrad zu verbringen und neue Länder, Kulturen, Landschaften und Menschen kennenzulernen. Und all das mit meiner aller liebsten Person auf der Welt :)
